Cancer is frequently associated with the biosynthesis of aberrant glycan structures, among which STn is a major player. Our work demonstrates the feasibility of using a plant lectin, Sambucus nigra, as the recognition element of STn. Coupled to a biosensor the strategy was effective to discriminate between cancer and healthy serum samples.
