Long-term exercise training prevents muscle wasting in cancer

In order to evaluate the potential therapeutic effect of exercise training in cancer-related systemic alterations, an animal model of chemically-induced mammary tumorigenesis was submitted to 35-weeks of treadmill exercise (which in humans correspond to approximately 25 years of moderate exercise). Data supports the benefits of an active lifestyle for the prevention of muscle wasting secondary to breast cancer, which occurs through the modulation of the TWEAK/NF- κB signalling pathway.
