Every year, millions of people are diagnosed with cancer, and much of what we know about the genetics of cancer comes from the work of two legendary scientists, Bert Vogelstein, MD, and Ken Kinzler, PhD, which are co-directors of the Ludwig Center at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

miRNAs increase the sensitivity of colon cancer cells to cetuximab therapy

Investigators at the Research Institute for Medicines (iMed.ULisboa), Faculty of Pharmacy, Universidade de Lisboa, from the research group headed by Cecília Rodrigues, discovered that restoration of two miRNAs commonly downregulated in colon tumors might constitute relevant candidates for future therapeutic intervention in combination with the monoclonal antibody cetuximab.  The research was recently published in the journal

Investigadores do Instituto de Investigação do Medicamento (iMed.ULisboa), Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa, do grupo de investigação liderado por Cecília Rodrigues, descobriram que a reintrodução de dois miRNAs, cuja expressão está normalmente diminuída em tumores de cólon, poderá representar uma estratégia terapêutica promissora em combinação com o anticorpo monoclonal cetuximab.
