Glycoproteomic Analysis of Serum from Patients with Gastric Precancerous Lesions

The study identified proteins with abnormal glycosylation in the serum of patients with pre-neoplastic gastric lesions, indicating the possibility of non-invasive diagnosis in this context. The serum glycoproteome approach identified, among others, plasminogen as a carrier of aberrant glycoforms.

ESMO distinguishes Diana Martins (IPATIMUP) with the "Best Poster Award" in the category of Breast Cancer

ESMO distinguishes Diana Martins (IPATIMUP) with the "Best Poster Award" in the category of Breast Cancer

Diana Martins was awarded with the «Best Poster Award» at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2012 Congress, which occurred in Viena, Austria. The results within the poster revealed that there is a significant higher frequency of p-mTOR in the very aggressive basal-like tumors, compared with the other breast cancer subtypes.

New biomarker of survival in patients with stomach cancer

Rosário André was awarded with the «Young Investigator Award” by the EACR for her contribution for the understanding of the role of Interleukin-6 in tumor progression and metastatic development in solid tumors, in particular in breast cancer.

Rosário André is a Medical Oncology Fellow at Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil and a PhD student at the Programa de Doutoramento em Medicina da Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Salome Pinho (IPATIMUP) distinguished by EACR with 'Young Investigator Award'

Salomé Pinho was awarded with the «Young Investigator Award» by the EACR for her contribution for the identification of a novel regulatory system of a protein that is determinant in the process of gastric cancer development and progression.

This work was recently published in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (Pinho SS et al BBA 2012 [Epub ahead of print]) and PLoS ONE (Pinho SS et al. PLoS One. 2012;7(3):e33191) journals.
