Prize on Clinical Research for PhD student Miguel Melo

PhD student Miguel Melo won the Clinical Investigation prize awarded by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Endocrinologia, Diabetes e Metabolismo on its 64th Annual meeting that was jointly organized with the XIV Congresso Português de Endocrinologia.

The study evaluated the predictive value of thyroglobulin at the moment of ablative treatment with I131 using recombinant human TSH. The authors demonstrate that at the moment of ablative treatment post-surgery for thyroid carcinomas, the levels of thyroglobulin after stimulation with recombinant TSH are predictive of absence of disease (minimum follow-up of 12 months).
