Four researchers in cancer received the Health Marathon Awards

The Health Marathon has announced the winners of the Health Marathon Research Awards, which first edition was dedicated to cancer. The four distinguished researchers are Ana Teresa Maia, from the IBB / CBME - Centre for Molecular and Structural Biomedicine of the University of the Algarve, with the project «Unveiling the Cis-Regulation at the Centre of Breast Cancer Susceptibility»; Pedro Castelo-Branco, from the Centre for Molecular and Structural Biomedicine, also of the University of the Algarve, with the project «Diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic Implications of THOR (Tert hypermethylated Oncologic Region) in breast cancer», Peter Jordan, from the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge, with the project «Tumor cell plasticity through alternative splicing in response to the pro-inflammatory microenvironment 3D» and Sónia Melo, from Ipatimup, with the project «Exosomes as a liquid biopsy for the early detection of pancreatic cancer».
 

Launched by the Health Marathon Association, with the support of the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), the Health Marathon Awards aim to promote Portuguese scientific research in different areas of biomedicine. In 2014, the prizes with the total amount of 100,000 Euros intended to support scientific research focus on cancer. The winners will receive 25,000 Euros each for a maximum of two years.
