Although low-molecular weight protein tyrosines phosphatase (LMW-PTP) has been associated with tumorigenesis and tumor progression, its role is controversial. In this study, we show that alterations in the RhoA activation status caused by knocking-down separately the two main isoforms of LMW-PTP, fast and slow, interfere with the migratory potential of breast cancer cells. Our results highlight the differential role of LMW-PTP isoforms in cancer biology.

Embora a proteína tirosina fosfatase de baixo peso molecular (LMW-PTP) tenha sido associada com a tumorigénese e progressão tumoral, o seu papel mantém-se controverso. Neste estudo mostramos que alterações no estado de activação do RhoA, causadas pelo silenciamento genético das isoformas da LMW-PTP, fast e slow, interferem na capacidade migratória das células tumorais da mama. Os nossos resultados evidenciam o papel diferencial das duas isoformas da LMW-PTP na biologia tumoral.
