Portuguese investigator wins 1st prize at the 10th International Medical Postgraduate Conference

The young investigator Bruno Pereira, from IPATIMUP and in representation of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto, was awarded the 1st prize for his presentation at the 10th International Medical Postgraduate Conference 2013, which occurred in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, and recognized by the Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System (Orpheus) as the author of outstanding research.

CDX2 regulation by MEX3A: impact on intestinal differentiation and stemness

O gene CDX2 é um dos factores determinantes da diferenciação intestinal, quer durante o desenvolvimento, quer durante a vida adulta. É anormalmente expresso em diferentes órgãos do tracto gastrointestinal, em lesões pré-neoplásicas denominadas de metaplasia intestinal, associadas a um maior risco de desenvolvimento de cancro. Este trabalho descreve os mecanismos moleculares e consequências funcionais de uma nova via de repressão do CDX2, através de uma proteína de ligação ao RNA denominada MEX3A.
