Cost-utility and clinical impact of endoscopic screening in patients with head and neck neoplasms

A prospective single-center demonstrated that the implementation of an endoscopic screening program in patients with head and neck neoplasia led to the detection of esophageal and/or gastric neoplasia in 21.7% of cases, most diagnosed at an early stage still amenable to endoscopic resection. An health economic analysis showed that the program implementation is cost-effective in Portugal and that these results may be applicable to other Western countries.
