The influence of tumor metabolism on tumor progression and drug resistance

A influência do metabolismo tumoral na progressão tumoral e resistência a fármacos

As células tumorais apresentam um metabolismo reprogramado, caracterizado principalmente por uma elevada dependência pela fermentação lática, mesmo quando existe disponibilidade de oxigénio. O aumento do fluxo glicolítico induz uma elevada acidez do espaço extracelular e amplifica as características mais agressivas das células tumorais, tais como a capacidade de migrar e invadir e a resistência à terapia. Desta forma, as alterações metabólicas presentes nas células tumorais, podem constituir um alvo excelente para o desenvolvimento de novas terapias contra o cancro.
